RE: What % Discount on New 2007?

We boought a new 2007 last year and paid 68% of MSRP = 32% off. This was last Sept, just before the fuel prices jumped and the economy started falling. I'd say you should be closer to 40%+ now that its another year older and the economy is still down. Make your offer of what you feel is right and if they don't accept it, walk away....they'll probably call and discuss it further.

RE: To Replace or Not to Replace (Mudflap)

I would suggest you replace your lost mudflap with something. Be it the brush type, shorter full rubber or individual wheel flaps. Our SPORTSCOACH full length mudflap was bent and pulled down twice when we encountered bumps, curbs, high-rise driveways, etc. It just hung too low. I don't want to throw water, road grime or rocks back onto others and I've been analyzing which type of guard to add on. Our car trailer has a rock shield bolted on, therefore I'm not too worried about our car getting hit. I will replace the lost mudflap in the coming weeks.

RE: Two Things That Made Our Trip

Glad you had a good experience and glad you had the backup generator. Its nice when your ideas "pan out". The showerhead was a good idea. Many of us husbands listen to our wives. I, for one, will pack anything my wife suggests we take. I subscribe to the axiom: "If mamma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy."

RE: Got it, Love it

Glad you enjoyed your first weekend out. Sounds like you're handy enough to overcome many of the usual "bumps" in the road associated with owning a pre-owned RV. I wish I were more adventurous/mechanical/handy. Thanks for sharing.

RE: dexcool antifreeze?? why is it not liked???

Most of the posters in the Corvette forum that I attend/monitor have good results with Dexcool. The Vettes come from GM with Dexcool and most of us owners have had no issues. A few have switched to the green brand, but not many. I'd say, if GM uses it in their flagship American sportscar and we sportscar owners have had no issues, you should be ok to use it in the motorhome.

RE: Wall protection around stovetop?

Wife likes glass on the back wall. After dinner she just hits it with a shot of windex, and done. Ditto, we used some 12 x 12 Plain Edge Mirror Tiles. Velcro dots on the back kept them in place. Easy to clean and the mirror finish adds "depth" to the kitchen walls.

RE: On our way to pick up new (to us) motorhome tomorrow!

Congrats on the purchase. I believe you made a good decision in buying a few years (more) before retirement. My wife and I did the same. We felt we wanted to enjoy the new MH for as long as we could. No one knows what might happen when you retire that could curtail any RVing. Enjoy. Make sure you take time for a good pre-delivery inspection and instruction session. Have the dealer show you how everything works. Take notes, video tape the session. You'll need to instructions over the next few weeks as you learn the "how to's" of your coach.

RE: DP

I haven't heard too many people saying they didn't want a DP. I've heard complaints about the costs and about them staying closer to home. I guess it all depends on why a person wants an RV. If its for retirement a smoother ride, ability to pull heavier toads/trailers and long term dependability, then a DP might still be the way to go. If its just to drive to a local campground for weekends, then a gasser would suffice. Indeed, there are some well-featured gas motorhomes that provide great experiences.

RE: Traveling times

I'd say 3 days driving at 56.6 MPH average for 12 hours, 680 miles a day, is doable. However, that's DRIVING time. Your profile doesn't show what RV you'll be driving. You'll need to add time for fuel stops, and possibly for eating and bio-breaks, which will add time to the 12 hours. I love driving, but 12 hours a day for three days is long and tiring. If you have the flexibility, I'd start a day earlier, just to ease the tension/stress you seem to already be feeling. Good luck on your trip.

RE: What state to register my new trailer...SD or CO?

My home state was Nevada when I was active duty and I carried a Nevada Drivers license my entire 21 1/2 years. When I PCS'd I would register my vehicles in the state that I lived. In Colorado I didn't have to pay the license Ownership tax. If you can save a few buck use the military affidafit. Perfectly Legal... When I was pulled over I'd provide them my Driver's License, Registration, Proof of Insurance and my Military ID. By doing that I think it answered questions before they were asked. Ditto. "Back in the day" I registered in Iowa or my duty station, whichever was cheaper. Its legal and its a benefit of being military and being frequently sent to numerous locations. Yes, if you select your assignment state, you'll need to reregister at your new location, but you need to re-register every year anyway...albeit re-registration is simpler now with computers.

RE: It's getting close...tailgate season!!

We tailgate at the Air Force Academy games. Have done it for several years. Its a 10 mile drive. We arrive two or three hours before the game. Usually BBQ some burgers or a steak. Eat, drink, watch other families and enjoy the atmosphere. The AFA has free parking in a HUGE field, so we have plenty of room for our 40 ft DP. We fly our AF flag, with my Iowa Hawkeyes flag under it. If any of you have the opportunity to attend a military academy game, do so. The pagentry is spectacular. At the Air Force Academy, there are fly-overs to start every game. The cadets march in accompanied by the AF song. Its chilling, exciting and a not-to-be-missed sight. Send us an email if you happen to plan a visit. After the game, we set and watch traffic until things clear out. We can't wait either.

RE: slides

We had a one slide class A and wanted more room inside. Our new coach has four slides and we love it. Interior storage is not an issue. Our basement storage has slide out trays and I have no problem getting to anything I need. the patio room is ample. We plan on using this coach as our retirement home when "half-timing" so we like the space. I'm also trying to understand the issue of not having room when traveling with the slides in. ??? We can set on both couches, we can access the sink, fridge, microwave, bathroom, shower, pantry and bed.

RE: NIce RV parks in Mexico

We have been going to Rocky Point, Bahia Kino and San Carlos for several years. The RV parks there are pleasant. Some have low water pressure and/or inconsistent electric power, however, those issues are just part of our experience. We speak a little Spanish. You can function just fine using English in most situations. We truly enjoy visiting Mexico and hope for many more trips in the coming years. You can visit On The Road In website for more details. Some of the info on the site might need updating, but it was very helpful for us in our planning. Also, Mike and Terry Church have a good book to read regarding Camping/RVing in Mexico. RE: Labor Day Weekend

We'll be tailgating at the Air Force football game on the 30th, (10 miles away), then we drive an additional mile to the Air Force Famcamp for the remainder of the weekend. Not far away, but relaxing just the same.

RE: Newbie Question about caring for fresh water tanks

Indeed, the Purex, or chlorine, method above is good. Don't forget to run the faucets in the RV until you smell the chlorine. You need to clean out the water lines as well as the fresh water tank.

RE: san carlos rv parks

I posted in the San Carlos forum that the El Mirado was for sale. El Mirador for sale There have been several additional posts that they are closed, the storage units are being moved and no one is in attendance on site. We stayed there in October of last year and enjoyed our stay. Sorry to discover it might be closed.
